How the checking works
- The question comes first. Every one is something a manager would actually ask — not "use the SUM function", but "calculate the total sales for the quarter".
- You type it yourself. On the real thing: the formula bar, the ribbon, the cells. Nothing is filled in for you.
- It is checked as you work. Right, and it says so. Wrong, and it says why it is wrong — never just the answer.
- Show me how walks the steps one at a time, saying what each is for before what to press, if you would rather be shown.
Excel practice
A live spreadsheet grid — the ribbon, the formula bar, the cells.
Calculate the total sales for the quarter.
| A — Month | B — Sales | |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Jan | 4000 |
| 3 | Feb | 4500 |
| 4 | Mar | 3900 |
| 5 | Total sales | your answer |
=SUM(B2:B4)
SUM adds a range of cells. The months are in B2 to B4. Type it into the Total sales cell, press Enter, and the grid checks it: 12400 is the only answer it accepts, and it says why if yours is different.
Power Query practice
Excel and the Power Query Editor, side by side.
Clean a sales table that arrives messy every month — blank separator rows, a heading repeated per group, a column nobody outside the office wants — and load it back as a table.
Remove blank rows → Remove other columns → Promote headers → Close & Load
Each step you press is recorded in Applied Steps, so next month's file is cleaned by pressing Refresh. The work is done once and it keeps being done — which is the whole reason Power Query exists.

Power BI practice
Power BI Desktop — the ribbon, the fields pane, the report canvas.
Load a sales table, write a measure for total revenue, and put a card and a pie on the page so the report says what the business is living on.
Total Revenue = SUM(Sales[Amount])
One revenue figure the whole report agrees on, however it is sliced — then a pie that says which category earns it, at a glance. The room checks the measure and the visuals you actually built.
Questions people ask
- Is it really free?
- Yes. One full lesson in each of the three courses, with its practice, and no account needed. The rest of the course is paid.
- Do I need Excel or Power BI installed?
- No. Everything runs in the browser, on a phone or a laptop. Nothing is downloaded and nothing is saved to your machine.
- What happens if I get it wrong?
- You are told what is wrong with what you typed, and why — a wrong range, a missing bracket, the right function on the wrong cells. The answer is there if you ask for it, but it is not the first thing you are given.
- Does the practice come with a certificate?
- The free practice does not. Each paid course ends with a practical exam — 20 questions, 15 to pass — and a certificate with a QR code anyone can verify.
